Antennae and base for sugar scoop antennae base body mount?

Gentlemen: I have a sugar scoop antennae mount that I am planning on mounting on the left rear quarter panel of my M-38. I have seen some different types (model numbers) of antennae mounts for sale and I would like to make sure I get the right one for my body mount. I notice that some have a porclean mount and some have a metel/spring type base. Any suggestions! Regards to all. Dennis.

The sugar scoop mount was rarely seen on a M38.

You should use a radio set and the correct accessories that matches your jeep and the period of it's service you wish to represent.

The MP50 on the left aft corner of the M38 was most common and the 447 on the spare tire mount was the second most common.

Let us know your intentions and which radios you are using and we will be able to better advise you.

Thank you for the advice. The only reason I would want to install the antennae on the jeep is to fly a flag from the top! Would a AB-15/GR base fit on a sugar scoop mount? Thanks, for your help. Dennis/New Jersey

We've had our M38 in three Veteran's Day parades here
in Van Buren, and we use a one inch diameter pole
attached to the backward slanting part of the top bow
with cable ties to fly our 48 Star flag, appropriate for
this time period. The cable ties are easily cut at the
end of the parade for the trip home, which cuts wear
and tear on the flag. It's worked well for Sara and I.
You might want to try this first.

The AB-15 should fit any of the jeep mounts.

Here it is on both an MP50 and AB-449G mounts

since we are on antennas, my jeep is a mixture of ww2 and korea, what would be good to use ( and affordable) for an antenna and mount, the antenna in the diagram above looks like the 1 i use on my weasel

The setup above is 1950 to 1955 VRQ-1,2,3 . WWII equipment would have been the SCR units so antennas and mounts will vary. If you are not interested in accuarcy then any combo that fits the brackets will work for you.

I have the MP-50 with AB-15 setup on my jeep, works great... I fy 2 flags on the jeep all the time, a US flag and an Oklahoma Flag. Both 12x18 inches... I got them from usflag.com... they come ready to slide over the antenna and then I poke small holes to use small tie wraps to hold them in place...

I onlt use two antenna sections when driving around town, add the lower when on a static display...

I just fold the antenna over to the windsield when puttting the jeep in the garage...

I have a M49 on mine and the differance I found between it and the M50 is that the M49 has a slight angle down to it. I belive as the numbers get lower the angle go's down. This was done by placeing a striaht edge across the top of the brush guard and across the top of the mount. I belive I have seen some where the antenna was almost ten degrees down.

I'd like to use the later spring attena would that fit the m-50 base and would this be correct for an M38A1 set up for early Vietnam era

From the mid 50's thru the mid 60's The VRC8, 9 or 10 would have been very common.



From the mid 60's thru the 80's the VRC12 was very common. But there weren't a lot of M38A1's still out there in front line service. These were usually seen on M151's.
