I am in the process of installing th engine stay cable. I forgot to install it and have all the drive train in,
Now I find the cable will not reach the crossmember it attachs to, I removed the crossmember and attached the cable but then the crossmember will not go into place.
Do I have to remove the gearbox and transfer case then tip the engine back or is there another way I am not seeing?

The stay cable should fit into two fingers of the bracket (if I remember correctly) then into the bell housing and tighten right up... very easy to do.
Now my question, do you have the correct front engine plate on your motor, are the front motor mounts correct... something has your motor too far forward if the stay cable will not go in...
You do not state what you are working on, I do not have access to my M-38 to take any measurements....
Hope this helps... _________________ Hal, KB1ZQ

I removed the body, transfer case, gear box (transmission), put in a new clutch and pressure plate.
I have put everything back and bolted up. I forgot the Stay Cable as it was in a box that I never saw. Now the problem is the cable will not reach when I put it in the crossmember bracket. It is about 1" too short as it will not go through the engine/gearbox lower lect bolt hole.
I have photos of the cable in place when I removed it.
Figured it out .
I was trying to put it in the wrong bolt hole. DA! I was trying to put it in the bolt hole above the lower left. I just rechecked the photo and saw the problem.
Thanks for your reply as it made me rethink what I had done.
Hope your restoration is going well.
