The rear lift connection on my engine lift attached to the head is bent forward to the point that I can not mount the air intake cross over pipe.
I plan on removing it to straighten it but am curious if the straight part that is welded to the plate is at right angles to the mounting plate or if it needs to be angled off square more to the rear.
As you can see the front lift part of it is a little cattywampish, guess it has had a hard life at some time. _________________ R G Mutchler

Hey Brian, not to hijack the thread, but same boat.....I have a mix of studs and bolts with no lift hook. I understand it should be ok to replace one stud or bolt at a time and torque it back, but three for the lift hook side-by-side at the same time without goofing up the head gasket? My lift hook sits in a box waiting for a better reason to pull the head. _________________ Ron D.

There is no temper (meaning heat treatment), in the steel there; but after you straighten it up, and it definitely needs to be straight, you should magna flux the weld to make sure it is still good.
Poor man's magna flux; put gasoline on it and wipe it off. Gas will seep from cracks.
Then grind it off and re weld it.
Or buy a new one from MM. Which is what I did. |
