Has anyone used a flashing amber light on rear of jeep while cruising down a busy hiway or in heavy traffic in town to prevent someone from running over you? BigDumb

I've not used that, but I do use a standard "Slow
Moving Vehicle" triangle, on a home-made bracket
attached to the two top lugs of the spare tire on it's
holder. The bracket was mentioned in Turchet's
column, with photo, in Military Vehicles magazine
last year. It was simple to make, using some perforated
metal strip from the hardware store, a hacksaw, and
some foul language. I hold the bracket on with some
self-locking nuts. It has a bolt in the middle to hold
the aluminum triangle, and a wing-nut on the outside.
Would there be regulations by those who live to tell
us what to do in each State regarding flashing lights?

yeah I thought about the Triangle too. I don't think using an amber flashing light on a slowing moving vehicle would be contrary to any state laws. Heck sometimes I've used the emergency flashing lights on my civilian vehicles if I had to drive slow for some reason.

If you are doing less than 40 MPH on a freeway or Interstate then you qualify as a slow moving vehicle and in some states you are not permitted to operate on the Freeway/Interstate system at less than 40 MPH. But if you are operating legally at such a slow speed relative to traffic then in most states you are permitted to improve your visibilty with lights, symbols or flags.

Rather than try to explain each state's laws here you should contact your State's Division of Motor Vehicles, Public Safety Office or State Police for advice.
