I have been given a set of Autolite waterproof plugs with the number 2244. I know that the M38 uses 2243 and the 38A1 uses 2245. If the series runs right these should be in the heat range in between the 2243 and 2245. The only listing I can find on this number lists it for industrial engines. But I believe they should be safe to use in an M38 engine unless there is some weird jump in the heat range. Am I correct in my thinking?
When a specific plug is approved by the engine manufacturer and the plug manufacture it is generally the best all around plug. It does not prevent someone with special needs selecting one higher or lower in the heat range chart. If you experience symptoms of the plug being to hot then just switch to a cooler plug.
The 2244s were used on the generators and other ancillery equipment. The porcelin inside the shell is not the same as the vehicle plugs and the vehicle wires will not fit in to them.
