Fellows, need your expert help.

We have a 1953 USMC M38-A1 w/24V electrical system that we're hoping to finish a complete tune-up on. We have a new WP dist. cap, plugs,
and plug wires we purchased at MVPA Columbus 2006.

Great guys we met there said civilian jeeps used the same rotor, points, & condenser, so we waited to get them at home. Problem is, we get a "disconnect" with the parts counter staff when we tell them what we need & what they're for. We've bought & had to return 2 sets, from 2 parts stores.

NAPA is closed until Monday, but if any one has a manufacturer interchange cross-reference on the part numbers for the rotor, points & condenser, will you please double-check the part numbers listed below?

Thanks for your help, and for a great website! Smile

NAPA/Echlin :

points #CS725A

condensor #AL869

rotor #AL104

Quote:
NAPA/Echlin :

points #CS725A

Auto-Lite / Prestolite IGP3028FS (superseded by IGW3028DS) (Caution: Some civvy jeeps use the IGW3028S and the IGW3028AS )

condensor (Capacitor) #AL869

Auto-Lite / Prestolite IAU2076L (WO terminal) or IAU3076L (w terminal) (superceded by IAU3076DS) (Note: civvy jeep uses the IGW3139 which is superseded by IBB2042SS 1)

rotor #AL104

Auto-Lite / Prestolite IAU1066 (Note: civvy jeep uses the IAU1016)

Inner Cap

Auto-Lite / Prestolite IAU1048

Radio noise filter (Capacitor)

Auto-Lite / Prestolite IAU1065 (w terminal) or XA790 (wo terminal)

So it appears only the points are a direct interchange.

Thanks! Smile

Hopefully, the NAPA Mgr. can cross-reference the #s provided tomorrow.

Is there a reference article any where that provides
cross-referenced Car Quest/NAPA/AutoZone/AdvanceAuto/O'Reilly's
part numbers for these & other basic & common MV/Jeep parts
that are locally available/interchangeable with Civvy vehicles?

Every time we've given a mil-ord sourced part number
to a parts person, you can see the glaze forming in their
eyes, while simultaneously reaching for their trusty
"Magic 8 Ball" excuse generator, or scooting you out the
door with the wrong pieces, due to a hurried or flippant "guess".

Thanks for any/all info & assistance.

There is one for the WWII MB/GPW. I've been jotting all the cross ref's I can find in my parts manual. Eventually I'll load them up on the web site. Time is hard to find for everything I'd like to get going with here.

You shouldn't have to give your parts guy any military part numbers for most hi flow parts. The ORD 9 gives the manufacturer's number also in most cases. IE every one of the distributor parts discused had the Auto-Lite part number included with the military and Willys numbers in the ORD 9.
