Remi,
Can you share your findings with me when you are finished collecting data?

I've been told that extra tie downs were installed on theCDN M38's that were sent overseas on the Bonaventure . I believe you should also have 2 additonal tie downs on the rear bumper. I've posted a picture of one of these rear tie downs .This picture is from the M38 CDN in the Canadian War Museum .See my photo Gallery ( Boucher) last picture.

Hope this helps

Several of my file notes mention they were used on all CDN's shipped by rail.

Peter,
I do not have the one on the rear bumper. Only 4 on the frame (2each side) and 4 under the spring plate. On his 50 year life span, it is possible that some was removed. Nice picture, it is the first time I see these rings on an other jeep.

Wes,
I will be happy to share info. The only thing I know was found on the site http://www.m38a1.ca/m38.html mentioning 8 extra rings on the frame for jeep transported by rail (the location of ring is not indicated) and 8 extra rings on frame + 4 rings installed to the four spring shackle plates for jeep going overseas. I hope all M38-CDN owners will take a look under their jeep and tell what they found.

Regards.
Remi

Another odd thing is a bracket which keeps the added turning indicator
( modified BO marker ) that was mounted to each fender from twisting.
My m38 has them, as well as the one in the Canadian war Museum.
Is this just a Canadian Mod? as I have only seen 3 vehicles with these.

The tie down rings could also be found on M38A1s, and on the M100 trailers. I remember seeing them on some of the recoiless rifle jeeps and trailers in the 80s. They were supposed to be installed on vehicles to allow for airtransportability. I have the mod instruction for the M100 trailers, and remember seeing the instruction for the trucks, but cannot find it at present.

Are you referring to M38A1's and M100's or M38A1CDN's and M100CDN's?

Ooops, sorryabout that. M100 Cdn and M38A1Cdn. The NSN for the installation kit (2540-21-114-2097) is also a Canadian number.

When you find the instructions can you also email them to me. I'll PDF them and get them up on the web site.

I added the rings to my jeep...

I was sent the dimensions from one of the folks here on the group and made them in a welding class I took... then bolted them to the frame...

My jeep is CDN as the rebuild tags I found were RCEME and the CAR# behind the bumper...

Hoe this helps...
