I am getting closer to finishing a 1952 M 38. I am undecided as what unit markings to put on it. I do have the hood numbers but all others are gone. My wife asked if I could put the markings from her dads unit. He was in a engineering company in WW 2(now deceased). What are your thoughts on putting WW2 numbers on a M38? I know the standard answer is "it's your jeep do whatever you want", but I am interested in your thoughts on this.
Why not research her dad's unit history. If it was not deactivated right at the end of WWII you could just put his unit's markings on as they would have appeared in 1950. _________________ Wes K

Wes' idea on researching the Unit History was right on. My father, now
deceased, was reactivated for Korea in the 5th. Armored Division (The
Victory Division) at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. Researching this on the
'Net was easy, using Google, and other sources from the local library. He said they had a lot of WW II vehicles, and some of the newer Jeeps as
well, so we marked our M38 as 5 (triangle) 15-I(nfantry) Star, A (company) 8(th. vehicle) on the bumpers. He often joked that he really
appreciated the armor, after being pilot in the AAC in WW II. I can see
his point. It's also neat that those markings equate with my membership
in the Civil War reenactment group N.W. 15th. Arkansas Infantry, Volunteers, and my Company Number is 8. A photo of the M38 is on my
site, http://home.earthlink.net/~starbird1942/ along with an M2 155 MM
gun in our local park.
