Need measurement

Top bows came without hole for door frame rods. Can anyone give me the distance from the top of the tub to the upper rod with the canvas in place???

Rick, Here is what I did right or wrong.
According to the rod building instructions, the horizontal rod is 35- 3/4" in length.
You can make the mark on the bow for the hole after you have the canvas on (but I didn't), that way you can make sure the canvas flap that the rod goes in fits ok.
I did it this way with out the top on. Place the rod in the windshield bracket. Hold rod horizontal.
Put a level on it, center the bubble, bring the front bow in contact with the rod. Make a mark on the front bow where the hole should be drilled. This worked for me.
The measurement you want may or may not be the same for all tubs.
But my measurement is this, Left side 32 & 5/8", right side 32 & 1/4"
I posted a photo in my gallery of the installed canvas top.

Thanks Ken. That's what I was planning on doing but figured I'd ask the experts. I have a repro tub and repro bows. The bows are a bit different than stock. Was most concerned with the fit of the doors after the rod was installed. Now after I get the top I just need to wait to see when my back-ordered steering wheel gets here.

Hey Ken....NICE looking M38!!! Pics of mine are in gallery. Had same thoughts about extending the axe handle bracket. Can you enlighten me??? Assume you welded some all-thread on the end.....

I believe you are the expert Rich Looks like this is your second vehicle to restore. I'm certainly no expert. First time for this. You can wait if you want until someone else chimes in. I don't have the door frames yet, so I don't know how that will work out, however I dont' think I'll have a problem. I looked at some other photos with tops but couldn't tell if the horizontal rod was in place on them.
I stuck a 3/8 rod in the hole that the vertical rod goes in and welded a nut to the horizontal rod. I welded the nut to the horizontal rod while the vertical rod was in place thru the nut so when I got thru I knew it would fit. And I wouldn't have to force it.
On the axe handle bracket, I cut the threads off the bracket and took a long shouldered bolt, cut the head off and welded bolt onto bracket. I think I had to run a die on the bolt to get a little more thread on it.

Ken , the M37 was a learning experience. The M38 was actually fun. The M43 I'm working on is a royal pain!!!!
Think I'll try adding a bolt to the end of my axe bracket, good thinking!!!
