Paper gaskets are used where the OEM wants to insure there will be no loss of torque on the attaching part's bolts due to shrinkage or compressability of the gasket material. If they had used used a rubber based gasket material, no matter how thin this compressibility issue would have forced a need for re-torquing periodically of the bell housing bolts.
Relax Ron, all you have to do is re-torge your bell housing bolts each year while the guys with paper gaskets forget them! _________________ Wes K

Hi Wes!
No intent to argue the point, however it's my understanding (and I certainly could be mistaken) that the thin FelPro material I suggested (Karropak) is a treated paper-based (not rubber, cork, or synthetic) gasket material that won't compress after torque any more than school project paper would. That's why I picked it.
After everything I've spent on my project already, what's another $15 bucks? But since you mention it, I'll have to put it on my annual flight inspection checklist!
Thanks! _________________ Ron D.

As can be seen above Paper is just that, Paper! I have been an auto and aircraft mechanic since 1962 (That's right 58 years) and construction paper has never let me down when I needed a substitute for a paper gasket no long in production! _________________ Wes K

I am not even going to waste any time looking up the cost of two sheets of construction paper. The rest of the folks will grasp the principle and go the right way. _________________ Wes K
