My e-brake has rattled for some time now and after replacing the arm and shoes there was no difference and still loose with fwd to aft play even causing the arm to contact the drum.
After further inspection i found the shaft had to much play allowing the arm to move freely and shoes to rattle.
I removed the e-brake shaft, I then purchased and installed a Hillman rubber grommet 3/8x15/16x9/16x5/8 through the floorboard. Reinserted the shaft through the grommet I/D and connected to the arm. No more play in the shaft and arm and the rattles went away.
