Hat shaped channel on M38A1 rear panel

Post by wesk »

Please post any photos you have of an MD Juan replacement hat channel. And any fitment notes.

That would be the channel at the top of the photo with the four footmen loops.

I used an MD Juan on my M38A1. It worked OK but in order for it to match the original I had to add 1/2" of steel to the bottom flange for the full length of the part in order to make it match the width of the original. Then you must notch out the left side to clear the trailer plug as on the original. I have one photo but it's not a very detailed closeup. Unfortunately I don't know how to send a photo in my reply.

Here's your Mjeeps photo album. Just load your jeep photos up here and then link to them in your posts.

Thanks for the album. I've been meaning to request one. Here's the photo. Sorry it isn't more detailed as to the hat channel but I wasn't trying to capture it when I made the photo. I should add that I removed the wooden insert from the MD Juan part before I installed it.

Hopefully this works.

Upon further review, it was the TOP flange that required a strip of metal to widen it. I looked at my original and my Jeep when I got home yesterday and the top flange is the one I widened to make it more similar to the original. All the footman loops line up with the top when it's installed.

It looks a wee bit shorter lengthwise as well.
