Fitting on radiator cowl question
Anyone have any idea what this fitting would have been for or is it a bubba modification?

I can't tell you if it belongs on the Jeep or not, but it looks like a Power Cord Strain Relief connector to me...missing the outer compression nut and the rubber crush bushing. Maybe there was an electric winch at one time and that's how they protected the wire going through the sheet metal...just a guess.

This should give you an idea. Keep in mind that the early M38A1 with the hinged grill was different.

Late M38A1 with non-hinged grill

Late M38A1 with non-hinged grill

I seems the OP is asking about the electrical compression "fitting" installed into the side of the radiator shroud, hence the enlarged photo of it.

The web site already has a "Links" board but I think 90% of the postings on it are mine.
There's nothing to stop any member from posting his resto repair photos in his Mjeeps album where any member can view them.
To get back to the original poster's questions now that someone offered us a specific spot in the photo to look at:
It could be a Bubba installed sleeve but it is probably there to facilitate the conversion to 100 Amp system with the AC rectifier mounted between the radiator & the front of the grill.

If I was tasked to install this kit at a motor pool I would press for approval of a deviation to route the alternator shielded cable through the passenger side of the radiator guard instead of over the top of the engine where it will always get in the way. The M38 version of this kit does exactly that.

M38 100 amp system.
Here is a good way to help everyone to stay on the same page:
