Replacing my cracked but not leaking flexible brake hoses and I notice the "new" ones I received from a popular supplier have a different style fitting on one end.
What I took off has these little horse-shoe shaped clips that don't appear to serve any purpose that I can see:
The "new" hoses don't have these clips, but do have the slot for the typical heavy spring clip that retains them to the mounting bracket.
Both are functional, but is either one more correct for the M38? I'm not building a show queen --- am asking more out of curiosity.
Btw, the dates stamped in my "new" rubber hoses date back to 2014. Kind of hard to take a "new" hose that's already pushing 6 years old before any brake juice ever flows in it...... .

Can't post them side-by-side in one photo because trash day is tomorrow and they're already in the bin. I hope this shows the difference? The old connector is longer because it has the extra slot for that little horse-shoe clip. The "nut" to tighten the fitting on the new connector is considerably shorter than the old connector, but both are still 11/16.

On the old connector, the little horse-shoe "C-clip" has it's own distinct groove machined into the connector. This is hard to see in my photo.......ok, I'm going to go root through the trash can to get a better photo.
I didn't try to fit one onto the new connector, mainly because it never occurred to me --- because it didn't come with a new one (like is pictured in a lot of the suppliers photos of them). I'll see if one of my old clips will fit where you show one on the new connector.
I agree that it must be modern aftermarket production different style anyway. But I can't see that this clip serves any purpose on the M38. Ok without them?

My Bad! Right, the round circlips are not used on the later fittings since the hex faces are more pronounced and will retain the fitting in the bracket on their own. The small groove is for the square spring steel bowed slide clips to tightly hold the fitting in the brackets.
Thought I'd post the side-by-side photo of both styles to close the loop on this. I'm going to use the new hoses that don't have the little horse-shoe clips.
