Lower windshield latch bracket m38a1 m170

Post by bl5211a »

Hi ,
Refresh my memory . Does the lower windshield latch bracket and it’s backing plate Install on the dash before mounting the dash to the body ?
Or does the dash mount onto the body first , than the lower latches and backing plates ?
I’m thinking it mounts to dash first , pinching the backing plate between the dash and body when the dash is installed .

Hi Brian

Put mine loosely before I installed the dash onto the body, left loose for final adjustment when offering screen to the body.

I do not think you would want to create two outward bumps in the dash by wedging the plates between the dash and tub. Also if the back plate engages the edge of the tub when adjusted and tightened that would add more strength to the lower hook.

Odd that 1/2 the back plate hangs below tub reinforcement , just can’t remember , but I do understand about two outward bumps.
