M38 frame has stamped numbers

Post by Z »

Anyone ever come across stamped numbers on your M38 frame? I realize Willys did not stamp 38 frames so thinking either this was with the KY National Guard / KY Air National Guard, as suspected. Link to pics below.

Hello Zane,

I posted your actual photos using these Image in sets and inserting the photo's Url between them.

I moved your post here from the projects board since it is a simple straight forward technical question.

The Project Board is for folks to start a post and thread that is used to follow the progress of their restoration. Friends and interested parties can open that post to follow you progress. The board was not meant to be a multiple posting place for other questions.

Now to help with an answer. It was common for military vehicle depots to stamp frames in that location with identifying marks so they could mate the primary structures of that jeep back together at the end of their repair/overhaul line. Some used serial numbers, some used hood numbers and some used work order numbers. I would guess it more likely the KY 6869 is a work order #. Guard or reserve units usually use KNG or KANG or AFRES for prefixes.
