Like all creatures who frequent an oasis, I’m here for the water.

My only ‘Technical Knowledge Base’ comes from thirty five years in the trenches with America’s youth, people who are now all adults.... doctors, lawyers, nurses, technicians, businessmen, parents and a few murderers.

So, I am full to the top and overflowing with educational truisms, opinions and fertilizer about how people who know nothing eventually come to know stuff.

* The first steps taken into uncharted forests eventually became clear, well known paths to Native Americans, yet many newcomers were known to get lost and eaten by bears.

* The only difference between a mountain of books and a library is the Dewy Decimal System.

* Those who will suffer no fools miss out on much what’s going down in the community.

Hey Don, way off topic and I can't resist.....it's all a matter of point of view isn't it?

Yes, all creatures frequent the oasis for water, but some are there to hunt food.

As a Marine, I was taught to avoid known paths used by the natives because they were likely mined or prepped for ambush. Learn and forge your own path.

Books? Library? Dewey Decimal System? That's all blah-blah-blah dinosaur language to today's so-called "smart phone" people.

Just because I don't suffer fools doesn't mean I can't watch the circus.

Yes, I also heard that every answer on fakebook is always correct. It's no wonder the owner is a gazillionaire.

My Dad came ashore on D-Day.
My draft number never came up.
Many around here volunteered. Some died.
College was my youth experience. (Go Gators)
I worked in slaughter plants for the tuition.
Back then an enlightened red neck could work his way through UofF. Not now.

Both mounts now have a plate. I could not find much info on the wisdom or folly of reusing original mounts. I think many folks (including me) use their original leaf springs but maybe this is a different thing safety wise.

Is anyone using their old mounts? Does anyone know of sudden failures from old mounts or do they just make noise and get replaced.

Reusing as much of the original stuff as possible, NOS, refurbishing and few repros are part of my resto plan.

One of the first things that comes to mind in this mechanical trade is average Industry standard material life times. Rubber is 12 years. disassembly and re-assembly of any old vehicle parts in a very short period is a PITA no matter how you try to reason it out. As a rule of the trade you change or R&R the engine in anything (car, boat , plane) you change the mount rubbers.

Here is what I have. (Right & Left)

The rod ends go into the slots created by the bottom plate on the mounts and that must be done during assembly of the radiator & engine? Nice.

Don,
Paired with a new set of motor mounts and now you're cooking with gas! Clean the cosmoline off and paint them up!

If you look at the rods, near one end on each is a small hole for the cotter pin (and washer) to retain it in the motor mount (insert the rod in the mount from top down, short rod goes on drivers side). Consult your M38 ORD9 for the correct size cotter pin and flat washer.

MY engine Mounts for my M38A1 don't have and bolt holes, other seems to just sit on the frame. Is that right?

Well if you use a pair of engine side mounts missing the bolt holes try not to be surprised when you see the engine and engine compartment damage caused by the engine bouncing freely from left to right to left again and again.

If you need proof that the rubber to frame mount plate has two holes, one forward and one aft just read the engine removal instructions in TM 9-8014 page 123 para. 120 and view the illustrations Fig's 54 & 55. Or look min your M38A1 parts manual ORD 9 SNL-G-758 Figure 01-1 item K.

When out and looked again. The base of the bracket has holes for bolts but seems like the actual mount that holds the motor is stuck to it... here are pictures

I looked on The Willy website and they had ones the were one piece and no at all like mine so I think I'll order those. Not sure what these were since there are Two pieces, when we lifted the engine the top part came away with the engine and the lower part with the rad braces stayed on the frame... Ideas
