My original M38 oil pan has developed a leak around the drain plug. Since the plug is riveted on to the actual pan im having a hard time seeing where the leak is. I dont see any obvious pin holes or gaps. But its constantly seeping oil. New plug and washer btw.
Just wondering whats the best way of going about fixing this without having to replace the pan with a reproduction.

There's a few posts about leaking oil pans (not gasket related) if you search "oil pan leak" and search on all terms using the button above. Mostly seems to be solved with welding, brazing, soldering, seam sealer, JBWeld, or the like. Hard to tell with some because few bother to close the thread by describing or photographing their solution.
Maybe I missed it, but have never seen a reproduction oil pan advertised for the L134, or NOS either. Seems to be limited to finding a good used take-off.

I guess I will give welding it a shot if I can clean the oil residue out enough to get a good hold. Id like to avoid JBweld or sealers incase they dislodge.
If not, I will probably be giving John at Midwest military a call.

hard to believe it was 10 years ago I was dealing with the same problem. ended up sourcing a good used pan.,

I think I will just order a new pan to save me from having to clean up oil all the time. Then tinker with the old one and keep it for a spare or other projects.
Weird how one day it was fine, next it was leaking several drips.

Just an update... Pulled the pan, cleaned it up and I took some Permatex #2 non hardening gasket sealer and went around the gap between the pan an the plug housing. I used my fingers to kind of push it in there as best I could and wiped off any excess.
A week later, and 2 drives and I still dont have any leaks. Hopefully it holds up.
