10 spline drive shaft
My 52 M38 front and rear drive shafts have different type slip joints and different spline counts. Rear is 16 spline with a thread on cap. Front is 10 spline with a crimp style cap. I would like to identify what the front shaft came on and get a new cap and felt, and be sure it will work correctly. Any help is appreciated.[/list]

Both front and rear on both the M38 and the M38A1 are 15 spline + keyway on the factory blueprints for original shafts. You'll need to offer photos of your front shaft and offer up any numbers found on the shaft before any of us can be expected to help you ID your odd front shaft.

I already copied your numbers from your last post. The reason I asked for a photo of the numbers is because how and where they are presented helps provide clue's to the parts identity. So if you cannot take a photo detailed enough and put it in your album then at least provide us with a precise description of the appearance and location of the numbers. For example you can draw a crayon circle around them then take a closeup photo.

He has already given us the Ordnance Supply part number 7974675 that he found on the shaft. That shaft PN was introduced after the end of production for the M38 but it is listed in the ORD 8 SNL G-740 dated 1956. Quite sure it is not aftermarket.

I brought the shaft inside and with a better camera I was able to get pictures of the numbers location on the shaft. Hope it helps. The photo is in my gallery “Richlep2” Still not sure how to attach photos to the post
