I'm guessing your M38 dipstick must be bent (or curved) to avoid hitting the pan when inserted?
It seems to me that the full mark is still the full mark for enough oil for the float to pick it up. How many quarts it takes to get to the full mark is a different matter.
I think I'd shop for a stock oil pan, but that's just me. Does the main skid plate fit around that oil pan?
I noticed your oil float isn't assembled correctly. In your photo, the "hook" goes around-over the lip --- not resting on top of it.
Good luck!
The dipstick wouldn’t hit the pan. It comes down into the larger section. And had like 1” still below it.
And you are right about full is still full. The quart count doesn’t matter.
I already tried to order a newer replacement oil pan from Army Jeep parts, but not available till late spring. I’ll wait for it and put it in.
There is no extra skid plate in my parts stash. The previous owner bubba welded thicker steel on the bottom of that oil pan.
The oil float, I took it apart after seeing the photo of the nasty one. Mine was clear. I reassembled it and pressed the tab back down. And tightened it.
I really want to get the Jeep rolled around to the front. Was considering removing the tub again to install the drive train. I can push the frame around myself if I did that. If not, I need a few friends to help.
