M38 Hood

Post by FrankenJeep »

I have a nice M38A1 Hood. I thought I had it sold, but it turns out costs more to ship it than the value of the hood. I wanted to get a few dollars for it, but I am still stuck with it. SO! Last chance before it goes to the scrapyard. At least this way I get the cost of transporting it (gas) out of it. I HATE to scrap it because it IS a nice hood for somebody with an A1. NO dents, minimum surface rust. So if someone can use this hood, I will give it to them to get it out of my way. I simply cannot continue to store it. HELP!

I just shipped one via Greyhound bus. Pretty reasonable. If someone wants it try to ship it this way.

Near Charlotte, NC. Will provide address to interested people. I wouldn't scrap it IF I can help it; its too good a piece! But I simply cannot continue to stumble over it, keep it out of the weather, and hold on to it for much longer The dilemma is, (the last time I tried) it costs $190 to ship via truck to Richmond,VA , palletized and banded. The tare weight is MORE (40lbs) than the hood. 8O Total is 90 lbs. I'd hate to think what it would be cross country! 8O Either way, its going to COST me money. 1)Obtain pallet. 2)take hood to a shop that has a banding machine. 3) Label and waybill. 4) Wait for truck to arrive. But I can't GET anything for it: I've tried. All a bunch 'o trouble, gas and time out of my pocket! :( Financially, I'd be better off to take it to scrap. But I will wait a week. If I don't get someone willing to pay the shipping, OR pickup for FREE :? , it will HAVE to go to the scrap yard.

Awfully bulky! I'd think truck would be cheaper! But, then, I haven't shipped anything other than small parts lately.......................

Put it on the local Charlotte Craigslist, with a picture for $25.
Craigslist is easy to sign up. Yeah, there are a couple of nutcases out there, but they are not crazy enough to own military jeeps. I've had good luck both finding and selling Willys stuff on Craigslist.
Plenty of Jeep nut in the neighborhood. They will be all over it... and come get it from you, to boot!
Try it,

Too bad it is not an M38 hood as it is listed as.It would have been well worth the price including shipping.

Here's how I shipped an M38A1 hood from MN to TX. I wrapped the hood in cardboard, using really strong strapping tape. Used two old bungee straps for handles, Greyhound likes to have handles on large packages. It weighed 55 #s ready to ship. I then dropped it off a the local bus depot where the folks there were really helpful. It arrived safely in a few days at the depot nearest the buyers home. All for around $100. No pallet required and there was no trucking company that could come even close to this cost.
