Need an M38 engine or short block

Post by mdainsd »

Was anxious to get one of the M38s finished up for the meets in California in April. Been working on it for a while. Got is started over the weekend, Runs great, like the rebuilt engine it was sold to me as. After a few minutes found a crack in the block right below the deck. A little smile of a crack right below one of the studs over the distributor.

Any rate, I am looking for an engine or a short block as I could use all the other stuff off of mine.

Prefer out west to save some on shipping.

Anyone?

Just stitch up the crack and use the one you have. Cracks form there because the iron is thin. Lock N Stitch.

Can that be done with the engine in the vehicle? Or does it need to be out and torn down?

Thanks.

Along with a laundry list of other stuff, my L134 is at the machine shop right now for some LocknStitch, multiple places, all on the deck surface. Complete tear-down in my case.

I'm super glad I didn't have to go search for another block, especially long distance or sight unseen. 8O

Getting 15 of these too for the new head studs (half mine were heli-coiled and the other half suspect anyway).

You can do it in situ. I think that means in the jeep. I have personally not done it as my machine shop does it; do some research and you will see.
