1953 M38A1 Pintle Hook Tie Plate installation

Post by Mike_B »

My M38A1 was missing the rear cross member when I got it and the tie plate was cut in half with a troch. I bought a new cross member kit and need help understanding how the tie plate was installed. It has 8 holes for bolts or rivets and I'm assuming 4 of them are for the Pintle Hook bolts. Was the plate bolted in the other holes to attach it to the upped support V bracket and the lower cross member or were they welded together? If welded...how? Just vertically down both sides? Anything across the top and bottom? And was the V bracket welded to the rear cross member where they touch?

Thanks,

Mike B :)

Thanks Wes!

I looked in your gallery photos and didn't see those, but they tell me what I need to know...welded in on all 4 sides.
