M38 Wiring Harness Transister Flash Turn Signal Unit Mount

Post by rgmutchler »

I am working on my installing my wiring harness.
Where have others mounted the flasher unit for the turn indicators.
I thought i saw a picture on here someplace where it was mounted on the left side of the fire wall, outboard on the main wiring harness hole in the firewall and above the hole for the parking brake cable and the gas tank vent line hole.
I can't find that picture and from my playing with it it doesn't seem to fit very well there and so I am looking for suggestions, alternatives or that the place mentioned above is the only place.

Thanks,
Ralph

Just go to my photo album, the 2nd album in the "Member's Albums" page and look at the sub-album, "Turn Signals". You should tell us which model Turn Signals you are installing.

The older relay system

The later kit only offers an instructions page.

Most folks mount the flasher unit from this late system to the back side of the firewall.

Wes,
I am still 24 v and am installing the later solid state unit or later style unit. I put some of that in the subject but used the word transistor instead of solid state, I should have put it in the body of the original message.

I had been through the turn signal album and saw where the old style was on the firewall in the engine compartment but didn't see any pictures of the newer solid state unit in the same place.
You said folks usually install the solid state unit on the "back side of the firewall." For my clarification, do you mean on the firewall in the engine compartment as I described above or on the firewall under the dash. I don't mean to be dense just wanted to make sure I understood.

Thanks
Ralph

If you use the instruction sheet for the late transistor type it clearly states the choice of front or rear side of the firewall is up to you. (Front is side facing engine & the front of jeep and rear is side facing dash & the rear of jeep) As I said most folks keep the expensive electronic parts on the inside of the jeep not out under the hood.

I am in the process of installing my wiring harness in the M38 and I will use the Solid state Turn signal controls from an M151. I will mount the controller on the inside of the firewall up and out of the way and line of sight.
