Distributor 180 out

Post by cobra5 »

So the PO rebuilt the engine and it appears he got the distributor 180 out. I have the #1 TDC on compression, timing marks on cover are at TDC however, my rotor is pointing to #4 position in the cap. Since the distributor only fits one way, do I separate the distributor shaft and re-clock it, or do I re-clock the oil pump gear, or just run with?

I would redo the oil pump... that is what appears to be wrong from your description.

Fix it now and get it right, in the event someone else has to work on it later...

Well I hooked it up like it was and she purs like a kitten. I took it on s road test and she ran fine. I won’t worry about fixing the issue until she gets torn down and redone. Not as comfortable as my mutts but the drive train is a lot quieter.

Here are a couple photos of my firing order being 180 out. I did find the coil leaking so I had to change it.Yes the ignition wires are not correct but good enough to get it to run.
