Windshield Strap Location - M38A1

I am in need of a photo or reference to the location of the Windshield Strap on the M-38A1. The strap I have has a loop in it to attach it to a footman loop for permanent attaching point.

I have the footman loop on the hood, and a welded footman loop on the windshield frame as per the SNL Fig18-6 (in the area where P, Q & R) are referenced. Is there supposed to be another loop there somewhere?

Also how does one attach the triangular rear mirror bracket to the same area on the frame.

I have searched and looked thru Wes albums but have not found this info.

I could be mistaken Hal, but Figures 5 and 18-1 in the SNL appear to show the strap being captive on the footman loop at the top of the windshield.

Also see Figures 12, 14, and 187 in TM9-8014, and Figures 158, 165, and 167 in TM9-8015-2. I think Figure 165 shows it best.

I see that, but my footman loop on the windshield is welded to the windshield frame and is at an angle Same as SNL Figure 18-6.. I am thinking there is another loop on the windshield (SNL Figure 18-8, Item G), but I do not know where it goes... I am thinking it goes on the backside of the windshield catch. I cannot measure mine right now as my windshield is at the glass shop waiting on glass (We had baseball plus hail in Norman, OK last week and all the glass shops are behind in trying to get repairs done.)

I will keep researching and will post what I find.

Item L on Figure 165 of TM9-8015-2 calls out a footman loop. I would think if it was welded to the windshield it wouldn't be called out because it's part of the windshield assembly, but could be mistaken. The figure isn't easy to see, but I think it's also showing screws for that loop?

Agree that a captive canvas strap wouldn't be on a welded footman loop ---- to hard to replace it. Footman loops have 2-1/8-inch spacing between mounting holes if I recall correctly. I'm guessing you don't have any holes anywhere that far apart?

Most perplexing is where are all the M38A1 owners out there? I thought you guys would be all over this one....especially one or two that own a camera...

Hal,
Look at the bottom of the top windshield frame dead center. You should see two holes where the footman loop fastens. That is where it is fastened. The footman loop at an angle is for the strap to strap to, to keep it from dangling.
Come up to Wichita some time and I can show you my M38A1.

For the TWO footman loops on the top rear of the windshield frame it appears to me the answer is in plain site in TM 9-8014 pages 306 & 317. The diagonal loop is welded and use to store the strap when not in use and the horizontal loop is screwed on.

Since a windshield top mounted rear view mirror was not supplied by Willys for the A1 your question cannot be answered intelligently without a photo of the base of the mirror you plan on installing.

That is what I am looking for. When I get my windshield back I will look for those holes. Need to get a footman loop but that is easy, I also need to get two for the bow storage locations.

Wes, it is the little things that get us in these restorations. Lots of manuals and pictures to go thru.

As for the mirror, I have the bracket from MWM and will worry about that for another time...
