Washington DC at night

Post by GregS »

Everyone loves pictures and I thought I would contribute a little.......

Last year my wife and I ran in the Marine Corp marathon in DC. Here are some photos I took at night. No altering was done with photoshop, this is straight from the camera.

I love the Korean War memorial especially at night, the troops look like ghosts at night...........they even photograph that way. Look at the troops in the back ground, don't they look ghost-like?

Is it safe to tour the monuments at night? I did it back in 1961, but I hear things have changed in DC since then....blood runs in the gutters after dark sort of stories....

Chuck,
I spent 3 days there in 98 and I'd rate it worse than St. Louis and not as bad as New York.

I think Wes' description is pretty accurate.

Like any city you need to know where to go and where not to and at what times. I felt pretty confident walking at night around the monuments as at that time of the year we went, there are many tourists also out at night.

We also took an organized night tour of the city that was terrific. I love the area around the capital. The Washington National Cathedral is also spectacular.

I certainly wouldn't let crime fears stop you from visiting. But take heed, I currently work in downtown Chicago and also spent 10 yrs. in law enforcement, so I am a little callouses to the riffraff.
