Hard to get a good pic of a black winch mounted in a black bumper.
This is a Braden PTO operated winch mounted on the front of a 1982 Ford F350. The numbers on the winch i.d. plate are AMSU3-10F, L, 72-00276.
It is operated by a Chelsea PTO Control cable mechanism mounted in the cab of the truck. When the round control button is pushed all the way in, the winch spool turns in one direction, when it is pulled all the way out, the winch spool turns in the opposite direction, if the control is put in the center of it's travel, the spool stops.
I've found the PACCAR Winch site and looked at the info they have posted there. There is an operators manual there but it appears to be for a later version of this winch.
If I understand it correctly, there is a "clutch" on the drivers side, a small pulley that is supposed to be pushed in to engage in the side of the spool or pulled out to disengage. That pulley is in the disengaged position from the spool. I can't get it to move, but the spool still moves when the PTO control in the cab is operated.
I think there is supposed to be some kind of a handle that moves the pulley in and out, is that correct? I've sprayed PB Blaster on the pulley to see if that frees it up.
Or, has the clutch system been overridden in some way?
Anyone have info that can help me understand how this thing works?
