41 slat grill
last month i missed a once in a life time deal. a fellow in southern ind. had 3 jeeps for sale -- all or none . a 41 slat grill,42 & 43 willys- all were complete mlitary, except the front bumper missing on the slat. no rust or dents, he'd sent me photos . i could'nt believe it. made a date to look at them, which would have been two days later, 4 hours after i talked to him he calls , tells me he sold them and thanks for my interest. he'd sold them all for $5000.00-- my great loss. the slat grill was serial #720, have any of you seen one with a number lower than that. i still can't think about it, it makes me sick.

Understandably so! It takes quite a while to shake that sick feeling after coming that close!i still can't think about it, it makes me sick.
I see serials 10, 40, 81 and 300 on the G503 list at:

Can you secure any data and photos from the seller or new owner?

Don't feel too bad, there is more where that came from... I know of 1 slat grill still doing time as a parking lot snowplow!, 2 M38's still owned by Uncle Sam, 3 Ford GP's, a DRMO facility with hundred's of M151A2's rusting away, the list goes on... I finally decided there are more jeeps out there than can ever be restored by the current number of restorers.
A few years ago an elderly local guy sold his Ford GP for $400 to settle a bet... then there is a guy I know who has a farm building filled with MB's and GPW's who is financing his retirement 1 vehicle at a time.
Happy hunting...they are out there!
Here is my biggest jeep regret... In about 1982 I was traveling through eastern Colorado in the prairie and came to a little town. While driving through we passed a strip mall and found a faded bright red Willy's MA that someone had driven there and parked with a For Sale sign. I think it was about $2000 which at the time seemed high. Not wanting to complicate our trip with an expensive jeep purchase we drove on and forgot about it.
To this day it the only unrestored Willy's MA that I have ever found.

Talking about regrets..As a kid growing up on the farm
we had a pretty nice CJ2-A. Learned to drive on it, it
was the tooljeep, pulled the welding trailer and did just
about everything you didnt use the tractor for. My dad
gave it to me when i was in highschool and he was slowing
down farming. I promptly traded it for a rusted '55 Chev
with a 327 and 4spd.
The chev is long since
crushed and the CJ2-A lives on in my dreams..
