USPS Option on orders from Dealer(s)
There was a thread recently regarding the lack of dealers offering USPS Flat Rate shipping. I personally would prefer that to the outlandish rates resulting from FedEx and sometimes UPS.
Accordingly, this poll is to obtain the general feeling regarding this option. Should it prove to be a popular request, We'll set up something to send to all the dealers. Lets see how the poll goes first!

I think it should at least be an option - they will pick up just like the rest of the carriers will. There are a few dealers on here I believe. I recently paid $16 to ship 2 w/s wiper blades, steering gear bushings and seal/gasket, and I ordered 2 cans of spray paint to make the shipping worth it. The other parts could have gone $7 flat rate.

This has alway s been a mystery to me. I have shipped items using all three main carriers, USPS, FedEx and UPS. I have never had an issue with the USPS, but have had major issues with both the other carriers. The fact that the USPS offers the same, usually faster and usually cheaper, service, I just don't understand why some dealers refuse to offer or use the USPS. The cost of shipping items for my recently restored GPW would astound most folks. My 2 cents.

USPS
I found USPS to be quite convenient, economical, and I have yet to have a single package lost or damaged. I have sold hundreds of parts on Ebay, G503, and Willysmjeeps. I only ship very heavy or bulky items through UPS. I found that the heavier items ship cheaper through UPS. Plus, USPS boxes are free at the moment. That may change. However, I don't mind paying a couple extra bucks for shipping.

My mail carrier ( Route Type ) told me he is carrying and delivering small packages for UPS and Fed Ex. They save money that way--------but not the customer----------I found that interesting since their rates are so high.
And the post office is going broke? Sounds like the Postal Service is too cheap to me.

Yep, Fed Ex has dropped off packages at the post office for us quite frequently for the post office to deliver (we live in a very small town) - I guess they pay the carrier? No wonder Fed Ex is high.

I sent a package to Australia not too long ago, and it was cheaper than UPS.

One compliant supplier
OK, here is at least one supplier who will use USPS priority flat rate! I just ordered from:
http://www.beachwoodcanvas.com
requested USPS, and they sent it that way with no objections. Not used to it, however, as they claimed 'no tracking available'. It's actually available and free if the shipping label is made out on-line. Cool

I was thinking about ordering a spider harness from erik's military surplus, but USPS want a choice for shipping - I emailed and asked him. He said he would do it - just put a note in the comments section and he would adjust the total. I saw the same harness at Saturn Surplus and sent them an email about USPS - haven't heard back from them.

Following on from Bill's earlier post, I just ordered a few minor components from Beachwood Canvas for my M38. They offered USPS as a matter of course; I didn't have to ask for it. Most of the parts I get from the US get sent via USPS, and 90% of the time I get a tracking number from the vendor.
Still on the subject, shipping the few items I bought from Beachwood over to the UK was the fat end of $60. I'll let you sleep at night, and not tell you what the UPS shipping quote was.
