Gulf Coast Rally

Post by acengraver »

I attended the Gulf Coast Rally at the USS Alabama Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama. It was hosted by the Dixie Division MVCC and the Mississippi Coast Watchers MVPA. There were vehicles from Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida in attendance good weather and a pretty good flea market.

Great location. I've been there several times. I see you missed capturing a photo of the B-52 I delivered there in 1982. Next time you are there look north of the tree in the right of the last photo and check out my name on the side as Crew Chief.

Wes, I'll be sure to do that. The B-52 is one of the few airplanes that survived hurricane Isaac. A lot of the outdoor displays were heavily damaged by the high tides and wind. The ship was listing about 10 degrees after the storm and has taken years to get it back level again. The aviation museum was gutted by waves that crashed through the bay-side wall and washed all the aircraft out the back wall. It has since been rebuilt and is much improved. This one of my favorite events to attend.

My mistake...the hurricane damage to the Park was due to Katrina...not Isaac[/quote]
