Except early M38 had an aluminum cylinder LO# FE3441, WO# 648069, ORD# 7697478.
Late M38 had cast iron cylinder LO# FN14054, WO# 805238, ORD# 7416478
M38A1 came with the Cast Iron cylinder FN14054 but the Army's logistics system allowed both of the M38 cylinders to be used in the field as replacements.
Also it appears only one service kit was available that covered both master cylinders: Kit, repair: WO# 802487, ORD# 7372669, FSN 2530-737-2669 _________________ Wes K

Is the master cylinder the same as the m38?
Couldn't say, never had a M38 but I think the military and civvy master cylinders are the same for many many years _________________ 54 M38A1 delivered 2-54
